Murray has had a long involvement in environmental law. He is counsel at Arvay Finlay, LLP, with offices in Vancouver and Victoria.
He was previously a partner at a national law firm and a former Professor of Law at the University of Victoria, where he taught environmental law and administrative law. He holds law degrees from the University of Toronto and Harvard Law School.
Until recently, Murray served as Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (2020-2024) in the Government of British Columbia and served briefly as Attorney General and Minister of Housing.
In his legal practice, Murray has represented corporations, First Nations and federal, provincial, and territorial governments in various kinds of dispute resolution involving environmental and Indigenous matters. He has appeared at all levels of court.
